For as long as she can remember, Fairfield Union High School senior Isabel Rodriguez has been drawn to the kitchen. Her mother has pictures of her at just three years old, apron on, spoon in hand, cooking away. That early love of food led her to Eastland-Fairfield’s Culinary Arts program, where she’s taken her passion to new heights, most recently by creating her own Bolivian-inspired menu for The Heritage Room, the program’s student-run restaurant.
The Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Teaching Professions satellite program sent 30 students to participate at the 2025 Educators Rising State Conference and represented well after learning that five students will move on to represent the school at the organization’s national conference.
As a chapter, the Teaching Professions was also designated as an Honors Chapter for the third straight year.
Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools had a fantastic showing at the 2025 Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Conference. Forty students put forth performances that qualified them for the National Leadership Conference, including 10 state champions.
Adding to its list of successes, EFCTS featured three state runner-up teams, two individuals and one team third-place finishes, and 33 students to achieve a top-5 placement. A total of 40 students between 26 events have qualified for the BPA National Leadership Conference, which will be held in Orlando, Fla. from May 7-11.
More than 100 students from across the Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools district participated in the 2025 SkillsUSA Ohio Leadership Conference. Eighteen students took to the podium after competing in their respective events, and five will continue to compete at Nationals. In addition to the six national qualifiers, 13 silver medals and three bronze medals were awarded to Eastland-Fairfield students. A complete list of medalists and national qualifiers can be found in the full story on our website!
In late February, Mrs. Levacy's social studies class took a unique field trip to nearby Capital University to visit its Anne Frank / Holocaust exhibit! This was an incredible opportunity to learn about Anne Frank, her contribution to the war effort, and the atrocities of the Holocaust. The students were prompted to respond to a quote by Otto Frank, which stated, "He wanted the world to remember, reflect and respond."
Here are some of our students' responses:
Remember - " After living in fear while just wanting a normal life for years - she was killed at only 16."
Reflect - " Learning about her yesterday made me reflect on how lucky I am to do the things I'm able to do."
Respond - " We can not only read her book but [also] educate ourselves and others by doing further research and laying the groundwork to never having something like the Holocaust happen again."
Class of 1974 | Electronics
What is your favorite memory as a student?
Running the radio station for the school during lunch. The station was located in a closet. My class took turns playing music and making announcements for the school over the station, which was wired into the school's PA system.
How did EFCTS prepare you for your future?
The classes related to electronics prepared me for taking the Navy entrance exam. The technical information provided to me by Mr. Bickham and Mr. Porter was invaluable. I was able to choose any field within the Navy to serve in. I chose to be a Missile Technician in the Nuclear Submarine service. After 12 years in the submarine service, I was commissioned as a Naval Officer in the Surface Warfare field. Later I converted to the Medical Service Corps as a Hospital Administrator. I retired from the Navy in 2002 after 28+ years and then went to work as the Director of Child and Youth Programs for the Navy in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Students in the Auto Body & Paint program at ECC have the unique opportunity to work on their personal vehicles, but there is one special project that is near completion. A 1951 Ford truck made its way into the lab, and it is getting closer to completion!
Classic car enthusiasts will certainly appreciate this beauty when the work is complete!
