Esports, or competitive video gaming, is still a relatively new concept. But Cristian Alvarez, a senior Criminal Justice student at Fairfield Career Center, is learning just how far it can take him.
The Groveport native is heading to southeast Ohio where he will be on scholarship at Marietta College as part of the university's esports team while pursuing his pre-law degree.
Want to learn more about why Cristian took that path, what he hopes to do, and how he hopes esports will take him there? Click the button below for the full story on our website.
Nearly 100 students from Eastland Career Center and Fairfield Career Center will compete at the SkillsUSA Regional Conference after local competitions were held at each campus, recently. Each campus held separate local competitions to select who would represent their chapter at the upcoming SkillsUSA regional competition, which begins on January 31.
Fairfield Career Center crowned 35 event champions and will send 37 students to the regional conference, while Eastland Career Center boasts 48 event champions and 62 regional qualifiers. Thirty-two students participated in events that directly qualified them for SkillsUSA States, which will take place this spring.

We're less than a month into the New Year and there are already a lot of amazing things happening around Eastland-Fairfield. Here are just a few ... or five.
Cosmetology students at ECC wasted no time getting back into the chair not only to hone in on their skills, but also to provide services to other students! Mrs. Owens' students took turns serving one another and others at Eastland Career Center, which helps them accumulate the hours they need to get ready for their State Board of Cosmetology Exam ("boards" as they are referred to as around the lab) later this year. The experience they are getting in hair, nails, facials, and customer service are sure to prove invaluable for students as they prepare for their next 'E'!
On a visit to the Interactive Media lab, we met Maurice (Reynoldsburg) who shared his love of music with us by helping us drop a beat. Recently, Maurice shared that he released his first track on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube Music, Pandora, and more!
Maurice goes by the name "Black Velveteen Rabbit" and his first song is called Sleeping All Day, which has a soft, ambient style to it. He told us a second track is coming soon and more will follow after that!
Congratulations, Maurice, on becoming a published musician! Check out his work on your favorite streaming app!

Fairfield Career Center has also reported that it has already broken its record for applications received, and its likely that Eastland Career Center will do the same before all is said and done.

Fairfield Career Center alumna, Stephanie Finoti '20 made an impressive run, being named Miss Ohio and then placing Fourth Runner-Up in the 2024 Miss America pageant! Stephanie completed the Pre-Nursing program at FCC and is a Whitehall-Yearling graduate. By the way, Stephanie recently earned her bachelor's degree in biomedical science from the University of Cincinnati, aspires to become a pediatrician, and is a HUGE advocate for STEM education through her website and podcast, That STEM Girl.
With all the excitement of application seasons going on, we want to make sure that you know if your student is returning to their Eastland-Fairfield program next year as a senior, your child's spot is secure!
