Eastland Career Center is proud to announce its designation as a Purple Star School by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This honor is awarded to schools that go above and beyond to support students and families connected to the U.S. military.
The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting the unique social, emotional, and academic needs of military-connected youth—especially as they navigate frequent moves and school transitions.
Fairfield Career Center is one of more than 350 schools that earned Purple Star recognition this year and joins Fairfield Career Center as earning the honor.
Fairfield Career Center recently hosted a vibrant cultural celebration, offering students a unique opportunity to share their heritage with peers and staff. The event transformed the campus into a lively showcase of global traditions, featuring colorful attire, traditional dances, and a variety of homemade dishes. Students eagerly engaged with one another, sharing food and learning the steps to cultural dances, fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse backgrounds represented within their community. This interactive experience not only highlighted the rich tapestry of cultures at the center but also encouraged meaningful connections and cultural exchange among attendees.
Thank you to Mr. Ruddell for organizing this awesome event, and for all staff and students that participated!
Class of 2010 | Pre-Nursing | Berne Union
What is your favorite memory as a student?
All the hands-on training! Going to the facilities and painting residents' nails, putting on fashion shows, taking residents to the mall and the fair. It was such a great experience for a high schooler who aspired to be a nurse.
How did EFCTS prepare you for your future?
To start, I had an AMAZING instructor, Mrs. Hines. I don't know how I could have done it without all the staff FCC. They prepared us for college and the career field. I was given the opportunity and guidance to pick out what nursing school I wanted to attend and what I needed to do to get on the waiting list. I was one of the youngest in my LPN class and one of the few to graduate on time.
What advice would you give future grads and students?
Absorb every ounce of information given to you from the career center. You WILL need it. In a "normal" high school, you may not use most of what is taught. At the career center, everything taught is important in your chosen career field.
We have so many amazing students that have completed an Eastland-Fairfield program and then go on to do amazing things!
Check out some of their stories as we share them on our website and social media!

Our 11 adult students took and passed their RDA exam and are now ready for their externships! More than half of this cohort is already employed after making such a strong impression. (get it? Impression?)

Congratulations to Eastland Career Center staff members Mr. Fealty, Mr. Kline, Ms. Witt, and Ms. Butler, for placing third, nationally, in the 2025 Step It Up Challenge! The team named "The Eastland Expedition" logged more than 644,584 steps during the competition. For their effort, they were awarded a $1,000 grant that will be used toward health improvement at ECC. Nearly 500 participants and more than 50 teams competed in the challenge. For more information, click here!
Students from the Teaching Professions program participated in the nationwide Spread the Word campaign by attending a community viewing of the movie "Out of My Mind", a film about a non-verbal young girl named Melody, who lives with cerebral palsy. Melody finds her voice with an adaptive talking aid and proves that what she has to say is more important than how she says it. The event and the campaign are designed to promote inclusion for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We even ran into EFCTS Board of Education member, Dion Manley, at the event!

Our FCC students volunteered to contribute toward the Habitat for Humanity Retail Store in Lancaster. Students took on the challenge of assembling flower boxes - despite vague instructions and limited tools. No sweat! Our students were fantastic and got the job done.
Thanks to their adaptability and hard work, these boxes will soon bloom with beauty and purpose!
Eastland-Fairfield is heading into the final laps of the 2024-25 "race". We have a few new pit crew members to help us get to the finish line.
